Manny Machado will be reunited with his former coach and mentor in Baltimore. Bobby Dickerson, who came to the Phillies last season after a stint under Buck Showalter was credited with helping Machado to develop his career. At the time Dickerson was hired by the Phillies they were still in the hunt for signing Machado.

In his time with the Phillies, Dickerson was credited with helping improve the infield defense. Prior to joining the Phillies, Dickerson was the Orioles third base coach from 2013-2018. From 2010-2012, he served on the Orioles player development staff and served as the interim manager for Triple-A Norfolk. Dickerson also spent time in the Diamondbacks and Cubs organizations as a minor league coach.

Dickerson will reportedly serve as bench coach under new Padres manager Jayce Tingler, providing some experience for the first-year manager. The official announcement is expected to come early this week.

With the arrival of Dickerson, the future of current Padres bench coach Rod Barajas, who served as the interim manager after Andy Green was fired by San Diego. Barajas, who played in 47 games with the Phillies in 2007, was initially kept on the staff, but will obviously not return as bench coach with Dickerson’s arrival.
